Trying to show motion in a photograph is not the easiest thing but I love the way they come out, maybe just a little will be focused - like the number 10 in this photograph - but it expresses a time when something intense was going on and I think that's so cool. This is a digital photograph that was originally much larger but I wanted the viewers to focus in on this area specifically because there is just so much going on and it has a good composition. 

Zetus Lapetus

This is an Advanced Graphics project called a mandala. The buddhist religion does mandalas for some sort of spiritual significance and it is used in there sacred places that supposed to help the meditate and whatnot.  But personally I think just doing the process itself was calming. I enjoyed making my mandala very much. How did I do it? Well, for starters I made grid out of basic white paper. Then I xeroxed that grid, glued the original down and used the copies for the magazine pieces. I started out cutting the magazine pieces the same exact size and shape for 4 rings of the mandala. Keep it clean and perfect. Then by the 5th ring I changed it up a bit to make it a little more loose as if it were starting to explode. When the 6th circle came along I just used random pieces, didn't stick with a specific color, and really made it look like it was exploding. Finally for the background I used different shades of blacks overlapping to create that look.

Shiny

Can you guess what it is? Well, the object of this photo was to capture something shiny. So there's a hint.. it's something shiny. It's a traditional film photograph - of a car headlight - that required a filter and burning/dodging. I think the result has a great range of grays and of course along with the strong black and white. In the lower left corner I think it's really interesting how you can see the reflection of me taking this picture. I also think its really awesome how it looks like it was liquified or something on photoshop but this is really how the negative came out, so cool. :)

New York New York

Oh how I love New York City. This is a traditional photograph taken on top of the Empire State building and for as many times that I have been to New York this was my first time there. And let's just say the view is priceless. I didn't think it was possible for me to fall more in love with that city but after seeing that view I did. Without question it is my favorite place, ever. Getting the perfect picture from this negative was a challenge but I didn't give up because I liked it so much. I think it shows a good composition because the tallest building isn't centered. I also believe it has a strong sense of depth from the point of view (birds eye) that it was taken.  I happy with the way it came out.

Thank god for dishwashers right? People with huge families like mine have a great appreciation for this brilliant invention. In this digital photo I was trying to have a big contrast between the background and the actual dishes but also show a wide range of grays. It has a strong composition and its interesting to look at.

Scopa anyone?

Everyone has there own traditions. Well my family is Italian and every holiday or family get together after we eat we get in a very competitive game of Scopa – an Italian card game. So this imagine represents that traditon. I have different versions of it – one in black and white and one in color. I edited them both in photoshop, changing the levels, contrast, color balance, burning, dodge, etc. 

Thingamagig

When people come across this they always ask me what the heck it is.. well to be honest, I have no idea. I came across it one day while I was doing a photo assignment for class and you know how us artist are...we get side tracked by the simplest things. So how could I not capture this cool looking thingamagig in the middle of the lake. 

Red!

This year as a senior I have mucho tiempo (a lot of time) to take electives. And since I'm practically obsessed with fashion and clothes and patterns and designing why not take fashion design as a class? So for developing the basics, the first project we did was fleece animals. And this is the walrus I made, meet Red ^. :)

Ent - Treebeard?

In this digital photograph, my intent was to get really close up to the carving of the tree and show all the markings and characteristics of the surface.  I thought it was a really interesting piece because it of the expression in the face and that it was just in a tree in general. I worked on the contrast in both the black and white and color pictures to make the face really pop.  When I was taking the picture I tried focusing on the composition and not centering the tree and I like how the image came out. It gives the viewer a sad sense for the mood and makes one wonder what the tree is thinking.

Coast To Coaster

This is digital photography. My goal was to show depth and perspective along with pattern. I dodged and burned the clouds to give them more pop. I also lighted the tracks of the roller coaster to add another gray so there is a wide range of grays, plus a solid black and white. I love the final result of this picture and how no one knows that its the roller coaster right in town at The Great Escape.

Dangerous Minds

This is digital photography that is supposed to represent a self-portrait. I chose this picture for my self-portrait for numerous reasons.  For instance, right now my life seem all over the place. I thought the messy branches in front of the ferris wheel symbolize that pretty well.  It is also a stressful time for me with all the million things I have going on so each branch represents something different. As for the ferris wheel it stands for how my life feels like it is a ride right now. How at one moment things will seem to be going really well, life looks beautiful just like at the top of the ferris wheel then it will drop and be not so great and you worry and its not a beautiful view anymore. The vicious cycle keeps going. Up and down, up and down.  I choose to do it black and white so really emphasize a dark time and I work on bringing out the different values of grays with a solid black and white to make the photo have pop and not dull boringness.  I think this picture demonstrates how I am feeling perfecting right now and I really like how it came out.
